Cherry blossom, mandu

Welcome to the Cherry Blossom Picnic project

You are invited to take part in the Cherry Blossom Project.

This will be a two-week installation of 4,800 hand stitched Mandus, Korean dumplings, exhibited at Colonnade House Gallery in Worthing.

The popularity of Cherry blossom festivals that take place in far eastern countries, brings people together to celebrate the arrival of spring. People gather to sit beneath the trees to share food and experience the fleeting beauty of the blossoming trees.

In this project participants will create their own blossom to fill the gallery at Colonnade House in Worthing, to welcome the arrival of spring and connect to a wider cultural tradition.

Each participant will be provided with a kit of natural dyed Korean silk fabrics and instructions of how to make a string of five mandus.

Korean Mandus (Dumpling strings) are often made to give to friends with a written message of good wishes wrapped within one of the dumplings. They can also be used to contain a personal message or affirmation. At the end of the project, you can take your labelled mandu home with you.

The project is proud to be supported by the British Korean Society who have kindly sponsored the material costs of the project.

If you would like to take part in my Cherry Blossom Picnic project and make a korean style mandu string then click on the registration button below.

There is a registration fee of £15.00.

Thank you

to the Korean Society for granting funding to this project.
