You will find the courses that I offer described below. I state whether these are by hand or sewing machine and whether the workshops are one or two days. I provide kits for most workshops ensuring that makers have the correct fabrics to works with. Many of the materials are sourced directly from Korea.

Double layer Bojagi hanging

Discover the inspirational qualities of this ancient tradition of Bojagi (Korean wrapping or covering cloths) and piece together your own contemporary Jogakbo wall hanging (pieced patchwork), made with a traditional Kkekki seam (triple machine stitched), using silk organza fabrics.

The aim of the workshop is to explore the use of overlapping translucent colours of organza and to explore the use of the extra fine Kkekki seam. Symbolic decorative embellishments, Bakjwi maedup (Bat knot).

This is a one day workshop. All materials are provided in the kit.

Gwi Jumeoni. Lucky bag. Korean. Bojagi

Gwi Jumeoni

Learn how to construct a Gwi Jumeoni pouch using traditional Korean silk fabrics and knotting cord. These light weight silk fabrics are woven with traditional symbols of longevity that wish for the happiness of the person receiving them.

During the workshop we will explore the historic use of pouches in Korean clothing. You will use silk threads to embellish the pouches with decorative stitches known as settam sangchim, triple stitching.

Golmu, Korean thimbles

There is a Korean saying that a hundred thimbles in a box will bring longevity. The delicate construction of these small objects defy their appearance by their stiffened lining making them both beautiful and functional.

You will learn how to piece the fabrics with a garumsol seam, whip stitching and join the two sides together with an extended cross stitch.

This workshop uses traditional ramie fabrics pieced in an informal design to create a mini wrapping cloth. Choose from a range of colours and piece your fabrics together using a Garumsol seam. Learn how to embellish you piece with bat knots or pine nuts.
